Not everyone sees the point of sitting in a salon and devoting an hour or so to your nails. Manicures don't last forever; that's why the salon can count on you coming back and spending more money. Your manicure will start chipping in three days if you're hard on your hands -- washing them frequently, working with them and not wearing gloves when doing dishes. For the average person, though, a manicure lasts a solid week. You may even be able to stretch it into two weeks by adding a clear top coat every other day.
“It was good to see the men just interacting with each other and enjoying something new. You could tell they were like little kids a little bit, the way they were sitting there, smiling, eating cookies,” Giles said. “It’s not like the barbershop. . . . People try to be tough in the barbershop [but], when you go to the nail salon, I feel like you just got to let it all out. Chill out and relax and have a good time.”
Gel polish is a long-lasting variety of nail polish made up of a type of methacrylate polymer. It is painted on the nail similar to traditional nail polish, but does not dry. Instead it is cured under an ultraviolet lamp or ultraviolet LED. While regular nail polish formulas typically last two to seven days without chipping, gel polish can last as long as two weeks with proper application and home care. Gel polish can be more difficult to remove than regular nail polish. It is usually removed by soaking the nails in pure acetone (the solvent used in most nail polish removers) for five to fifteen minutes, depending on the formula.

Nail polish remover is an organic solvent that may also include oils, scents, and coloring. Nail polish remover packages may include individual felt pads soaked in remover, a bottle of liquid remover used with a cotton ball or cotton pad, or a container filled with foam into which one inserts a finger and twists it until the polish comes off. Choosing a type of remover is determined by the user's preference, and often the price or quality of the remover.
For Best Results: Prep your nail with Remove nail polish remover and apply two coats of any MATTEVELVET shade to your nail bed. Mattes can be applied over Zoya GetEven to protect your nails from staining when using highly pigmented shades. To extend wear, apply one coat of the Zoya MatteVelvet Topcoat over your favorite matte shades after polish is completely dry. Due to the unique matte formulation, color is typically not as long-wearing as traditional nail color.

Calluses and corns are hardened skin that can crack and hurt if they get too thick. During a pedicure, don't let the salon technician use a razor on your feet. Razors raise the risk of infection. At home, soak your feet in warm water for at least five minutes. Then use a foot file, pumice stone, or exfoliating scrub to remove calluses. Don't go barefoot, either -- it can cause calluses.
Scrub your feet with a pumice stone or foot file while they are wet. A pumice stone is a light, porous volcanic rock often used to remove dead skin cells and calluses. You can also use a foot file to do this. To use, hold the tool up to your foot, and quickly move it back and forth. It is best to work in about 1 in (2.5 cm) areas at a time. Apply steady pressure, but be careful not to push too hard.
Regardless of the reason for the beauty treatment, a manicure forces you to take some time for yourself. How you spend that time is up to you -- rehashing recent dramas with your friend in the adjacent chair or chatting with the manicurist. After all, you and the manicurist practically hold hands, and if you know each other well, you might catch up on life since the last manicure.
