To start, Anna, one of the nail technicians in the salon, removed all access nail polish from my nail using acetone before pulling out her electric buffing machine to smooth out any rugged areas on my nail and create a clean canvas for the powder to stick to. After cutting and shaping my nail—I opted for an oval shape instead of my usual squoval—and pushing back my cuticles, it was time for the fun to begin. Anna brushed on a primer, then swiped on a clear polish. While there were an array of powder colors to choose from (pink, nude, purple, etc.) my heart was set on the pale orange shade I saw upon arriving at the salon so I chose to go with that.

Regardless of the reason for the beauty treatment, a manicure forces you to take some time for yourself. How you spend that time is up to you -- rehashing recent dramas with your friend in the adjacent chair or chatting with the manicurist. After all, you and the manicurist practically hold hands, and if you know each other well, you might catch up on life since the last manicure.
Social media has given rise to the nail art culture that allows users to share their pictures about their nail art. "WWD reports nail polish sales hit a record $768 million in the U.S. in 2012, a 32% gain over 2011, despite a cluttered market that seemingly sees a new launch each week." Several new polishes and related products came on to the market in the second decade of the twenty-first century as part of the explosion of nail art, such as nail stickers (either made of nail polish or plastic), stencils, magnetic nail polish, nail pens, glitter and sequin topcoats, nail caviar (micro beads), nail polish marketed for men, scented nail polish, and color changing nail polish (some which change hue when exposed to sunshine, and ranges which change hue in response to heat).[year needed] Pinterest, Instagram, and YouTube have been popular social media sites on which many people around the world are posting their unique nail art.
I had had my eye on this cheerful pink polish for a while, but with the vast color options OPI provides, I kept running across other hues I could not pass up. After debating on different pink shades for the entire summer, I could no longer put this one off, and wow, have I been missing out! My only upset regarding this purchase is that I didn't buy it sooner and have this perky shade to sport the entire summer! It's a ridiculously obnoxious pink that I feel ladies of all ages can find endearing when they want to feel a little more feminine. It does take at least 2 coats to cover your strokes, or maybe it's only a problem for an amateur like myself, but the end product is well worth the layers! OPI is always my go-to brand and they never disappoint!
If you are new to receiving manicures, start with a basic manicure, without all the extras. A nail technician will apply a cream, oil, or lotion to the cuticles first, then place the hands into a dish of warm water for about five minutes to soak. After the soaking process is over and cuticles have been tamed, they will dry the hand, and ask what shape and length you prefer. You can choose from square, oval, squoval (a combination of the two), or the popular stiletto.
People have been pedicuring their nails for more than 4,000 years. In southern Babylonia, noblemen used solid gold tools to give themselves manicures and pedicures. The use of fingernail polish can be traced back even further. Originating in China in 3000 BC, nail color indicated one’s social status, according to a Ming Dynasty manuscript; royal fingernails were painted black and red. Ancient Egyptians have been manicuring all the way back to 2300 BC.
Refining your skin, the treatment begins with a sea salt exfoliation from the knees to the feet. Enjoy a state of total bliss as warm volcanic stones are massaged from heel to knee followed by an old fashioned foot rub to increase relaxation. A double action seaweed foot mask and fresh seaweed leaf wrap around the legs reduce swelling and soften tired feet. A truly “sole”ful experience.
This type of nail polish is a clear, milky-colored, or opaque pink polish formula that is used specifically before applying nail polish to the nail. The purpose of it is to strengthen nails, restore moisture to the nail, and/or help polish adhere to the nail so staining will not occur and the manicure lasts longer than without a base coat. Some base coats are marketed as "ridge fillers" which can create a smooth surface, and reduce the appearance of the ridges that can appear on unbuffed nails. Some base coats called "peel off base coats" allow the user to peel off their nail polish without using a remover.

Not everyone sees the point of sitting in a salon and devoting an hour or so to your nails. Manicures don't last forever; that's why the salon can count on you coming back and spending more money. Your manicure will start chipping in three days if you're hard on your hands -- washing them frequently, working with them and not wearing gloves when doing dishes. For the average person, though, a manicure lasts a solid week. You may even be able to stretch it into two weeks by adding a clear top coat every other day.
