“I love chatting with my clients, it’s one of my favorite parts of the job. But there’s a line of what you should and shouldn’t say. We’re not your therapist so don’t tell us all the messy details of your divorce or your last doctor’s checkup; just hold a pleasant and uplifting conversation.”—Heather Norton This is what your nail polish color says about your personality.
“The first thing is that you really have to look around you and say, ‘If this is what it looks like publicly, if there are any red flags, then what does it look like behind the scenes?’” Katta explained. “You want to look for those obvious things: Are trash cans overflowing? Are there nail clippings or nail filings or debris from a procedure around the work spaces?”
“It was good to see the men just interacting with each other and enjoying something new. You could tell they were like little kids a little bit, the way they were sitting there, smiling, eating cookies,” Giles said. “It’s not like the barbershop. . . . People try to be tough in the barbershop [but], when you go to the nail salon, I feel like you just got to let it all out. Chill out and relax and have a good time.”
Rushing through each coat will cause your mani to erode faster — as well as using too thick a layer, both of which happen all too often in busy salons. "You absolutely must let each layer — base coat, first polish application, second polish application and top coat — dry completely before doing the next," said nail expert Deborah Lippmann, who told Harper's Bazaar magazine, "When you paint on your next coat before the layer before is fully dry, you get peeling in sheets."

For those looking to make a statement with their nails, go chrome. The mirror manicure was named a trend by both Pinterest and Reader's Digest. To achieve the look, each nail is first cleaned and shaped. Then a coat of black polish is applied, cured, and buffed. Next, top coat is applied and cured, before putting on a mirror powder. It is sealed with a top coat, cured, and buffed. It finishes with a gel top coat to create a shiny mirrored effect.

Osterman, the president of the American Academy of Podiatric Sports Medicine and the team podiatrist for the Wizards, has noticed how the NBA occupational hazard of often wearing new shoes can partially explain the trauma on players' feet. The shoes never quite break in, and the skin around the foot has to grow thick layers to absorb the excessive stopping and starting on the court. Over time, the pressure causes calluses to build up on the bottom of the foot, and painful ingrown toenails also develop. But unlike in past generations, Osterman believes today’s players are more inclined to fix these problems with a proper pedicure.

A manicure is not typically given when receiving a set of artificial nails because it interferes with the bonding process between the extensions and the acrylic. If you choose this option, nail tips allow for a more personalized look. Many salons have the basic French tips, but they also have more exciting ones with pre-made designs, in a variety of colors.
"We had to wait 30 minutes she was behind but didn’t come and tell us because she was alone in a place. We got hot tea which was nice. Its not the most comfortable chair this place is for skin care really not for nails. Overall she was nice oh and a whole building was super cold which she is not able to control. It is a shared office situation.."-Krisztina K.

To my surprise, the dip powder manicure process was fairly simple: Anna dipped each finger into the clear, finely-milled powder, brushed off the excess powder, set it with a protective clear polish and repeated these steps until my nail was fully coated and hardened. After applying OPI’s Freedom of Peach, Anna sealed each nail with a gel top coat and placed my hands under a fan dryer. The process took about an hour and a half in total—and for $51, the manicure was still in tip-top shape after a week of fumbling through my handbag for my keys, typing on my laptop, and washing my hands round the clock.

Hands or feet can be covered in melted paraffin wax for softening and moisturizing. Paraffin wax is used because it can be heated to temperatures of over 95 °F (35 °C) without burning or injuring the body. The intense heat allows for deeper absorption of emollients and essential oils. The wax is usually infused with various botanical ingredients such as aloe vera, azulene, chamomile, or tea tree oil, and fruit waxes such as apple, peach, and strawberry, are often used in salons. Occasionally, lotion is rubbed on the hand or foot before being coated in paraffin. Paraffin wax treatments are often charged as an addition to the standard manicure or pedicure. They are often not covered in general training and are a rare treatment in most nail salons.
